“Who goes there?” A deep voice growled. Ryuu heard
the faint clicks of machine guns being cocked. Slowly, he took down his
hand. About seven people were in the room, all of then holding guns. Most
of them were pointed at him. Two men were guarding a woman, near the back
of the group.
“Identify yourself!” the man barked.
“I’m…”
“I’ve got you now, Wallace!” A voice shouted from
behind Ryuu. Ryuu turned around.
“Adam!” The woman at the back cried.
“Io!” Adam replied. “Release Io,” Adam threatened.
“I’ve already sent information about you to the headquarters, Wallace.
There’s no escape for you. As we speak, planes are flying over Salem, ready
to attack on my command. Surrender, or die!”
The members glanced around uneasily. Ryuu stood in the middle of the crossfire, not knowing whether to move, but wisely kept quiet.
The door burst open for the third time.
“Ryuu!” Deej clamored.
“Run for it!” Wallace and his people ran towards
the exit as Adam quickly gave chase. Before anyone manage to run out of
the door, everyone heard Alexis’s planes flew overhead.
“Damn! They’re bombing us!” The frantic group ran
out of the hall and into the main area of the warehouse. Adam snatched
Wallace’s shirt, only to be dragged along.
“Hold it right there!” Cheng Yi shouted. He ran
after the rebels.
“IO!” Adam yelled as debris toppled between them.
Ryuu ran towards Io, grabbing her and rolled to
the end of the hall, as rubble fell behind them. They lay unconscious for
a minute or two, amidst the choking dust.
The dynamism of the bombing forced Kaie and Deej
to fall to the floor, desperately trying to protect themselves from the
falling debris. When the rubbish seemed to stop falling, they tried to
stand up. The air was enveloped with thick dust and small pieces of concrete
around them. The warm Salem sunshine shone down upon them through big holes
in the ceiling.
“Are you hurt?” Kaie asked. Both was brushing the
dust off themselves.
“I’m okay, I think. But my head’s still ringing
from the explosion,” Deej replied.
“Wasn’t Ryuu over there?” Kaie asked. When the air
cleared a little, they saw that Ryuu was trapped behind a pile of rubble.
Kaie and Deej looked towards the entrance of the warehouse. Cheng Yi was
nowhere to be seen.
“Ryuu! Are you alright?” Deej called.
Silence.
“Maybe he’s unconscious,” Kaie suggested. He placed
his hand on her shoulder. “We’ll get help to get them out of there. Don’t
worry.”
Deej nodded.
“We have to be careful where we walk. Look, the
ruins nearly smashed the floor,” Kaie said.

Cheng Yi looked back at the warehouse in stupor.
The building was severely damaged, with collapsed walls and its framework
standing like a blackened skeleton amidst the sunshine. Adam stood next
to him.
“Oh God…”
Cheng Yi ran towards the warehouse.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Deej and Kaie jumped backwards as more rubble toppled
in front of them. A dense layer of dust filled the air, rendering Deej
and Kaie transitorily blind. They both coughed, trying to breathe.
“Cough…cough…Are you all right…?Cough…” Kaie gasped.
“Yeah…cough…” Deej replied. “So much for trying
to open the door. The pressure from the walls must have jammed it.”
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Deej?” Ryuu sat up. He saw Io by his side. He slowly
shook her shoulders.
“Are you alright?” Ryuu asked. The woman stirred
to life.
“What happened?” she asked.
“Some Alexis planes dropped bombs. We’re trapped
here, but I think I hear my friends on the other side.” Ryuu strained to
listen. Yes, he could make out Kaie and Deej’s voices.
“Deej! Kaie!”
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Deej’s ears pricked. “Did you hear that?” she asked
Kaie.
“It’s Ryuu!” Kaie exclaimed. “Hey Ryuu! Are you
okay?” he shouted.
“Yeah, I’m fine. But we’re stuck here. Can you try
to get us out?” Before Kaie could reply, Deej interrupted.
“Okay.” She said. Deej was looking around, and picked
up a large metal pipe.
“Let’s try to move some of the ruins,” she said.
Kaie pondered about it, then he had an idea.
“Why don’t you use magic to move the ruins?”
Deej was already prying apart some of the rubbish,
sending dust flying everywhere.
“If I used magic for everything, I wouldn’t survive
in this world for even a week.”
